Alice Bell’s first ever screenplay was the very dark and multi-award winning feature film Suburban Mayhem which was invited to compete in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2006. She won the Australian Writers Guild Award for Best Original Screenplay that year.
Since then, Alice has gone on to write and script produce high-end television dramas in Australia. Her credits include The Slap (winner of the Australian Writers Guild Award for Best Drama 2012), Puberty Blues seasons 1 & 2 (won the AACTA award for Best Drama 2013) and a contemporary adaptation of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, The Beautiful Lie (nominated for 9 AACTA awards 2016) of which she was also the co-creator.
Alice sometimes leaves her computer to direct music videos – having made clips for popular Australian artists such as Silverchair, Missy Higgins, Toni Collette, Little Birdy and Jimmy Barnes (Silverchair’s “Straight Lines” won the ARIA award for Best Music Video in 2007).
Alice is currently working with Nicole Kidman and producer Per Saari on The Expatriates, a 6-part adaptation about three expat women living in Hong Kong.
Alice is represented by Jane Cameron at Cameron’s Management in Australia and Ted Miller at CAA, Los Angeles, USA.
