About Cathy Strickland

AWGIE winner and nominee, Cathy has worked for over twenty years in television as a researcher, script editor and writer. Her credits include Love Child (series 1-4), A Place to Call Home, G.P., Medivac, Children’s Hospital, House Gang, Murder Call, All Saints, McLeod’s Daughters. In 2007 Cathy co- wrote and produced with her husband and partner, Tim Pye, the film Emerald Falls for the Ten Network.

In 2009 Cathy was commissioned to write a monologue for The Kangaroo Valley Arts Festival. Another series of monologues – Peeled for actor, Di Smith followed at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in 2010.

In 2010 The Australian National Academy of Music performed The Musical Child words by Cathy Strickland, music by the Australian composer, Andrew Ford. The Musical Child won the 2012 AWGIE for Music Theatre.

In 2010 Cathy received funding from Screen Australia to write the film adaptation of a memoir written by linguist, Professor Daniel Everett. The Crooked Head is currently in the marketplace seeking a producer.

2013 – 2017 Cathy wrote 6 episodes of Love Child.

Cathy is currently writing A Place to Call Home and is assistant script producer on the series.

In April this year Cathy’s pilot script Dirty Work was shortlisted in the Australian Writers’ Guild Showcase competition.

In August of 2017 she travelled to Los Angeles having secured herself a desk at ‘Charlie’s Hub’ with the assistance of Screen NSW. The purpose of this trip was to develop her television drama ideas (including a second draft of Dirty Work and meet with both producers, network heads and agents.)
