Michael is an Australian filmmaker. He was born in the Western Suburbs of Sydney and raised by an Indian father and Australian mother. Classically trained as an actor from The University of Western Sydney Nepean, Michael went on to study Screenwriting at AFTRS graduating in 2015.
Michael has been identified as one-to-watch as an emerging screenwriter and director. In 2015 he was selected to participate in Screen NSW/Metro Screenʼs First Breaks Film Lab. Through this hothouse, Michael wrote and directed the short film The Lake, funded and developed though Metro Screen and Screen NSW. THE LAKE has received official selections around the globe and premiered at Oscar and BAFTA-qualifying Encounters Short Film Festival in the UK, returning home for its Australian Premiere at the St Kilda Film Festival 2017.
Michael is interested in the outsider looking in; themes of identity, the complexity of youth and coming-of-age feature heavily in his work. Upcoming directing projects include the short film There She Is, for which Michael was selected to develop as a participant in the Talent Camp lab with AFTRS, Screen Australia and Create NSW, along with short film Drought with producer Rebecca Janek. Michael is also currently developing several long-form projects including an Untitled feature film set in rural east India and the 6-part narrative online comedy/drama If Pain Persists.
In 2018 Michael was shortlisted for the Sydney Film Festival Lexus Fellowship and was the recipient of the Emerging Producer Placement with Create NSW. Michael later completed an attachment in development with Matchbox Pictures furthering his breadth of experience across the film and television landscape.
