About Alan King

Alan worked as a professional actor for over 25 years before branching out into filmmaking, art and writing. He graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2006.

He has written, produced and directed four short films to date: The Winking Boy (2011), Goldfield (2013), The Correspondent (2015) and A Way Back (2016), all of which have screened at local and International Film Festivals including: Moscow, Sao Paulo, Flickerfest, Cinequest, Bogota, Athens, Hollyshorts, Worldfest Houston and New Orleans.

Alan’s script for The Winking Boy won Best Screenplay at the 2011 Las Vegas International Film Festival and his screenplay Leo’s Dream was nominated for the 2017 AWG Monte Miller Award (short form).

Alan has written four feature films written to date. Early drafts of the black comedies Magnus Of God and Mealybugs placed in the top 10% and 15% (respectively) at the Academy Nichols Fellowship in 2016 and 2017 and his thriller A Bad Man was a quarter finalist at the 2016 Austin International Film Festival.

Alan is currently in the early draft stages of the feature film The Milk Bar, a retrospective comedy which centres around the Cosmidies, a Greek family who operate a suburban Milk Bar in the Western Suburbs of Victoria during the 70s, 80s. and 90s.
