About Alan King

Alan worked as a professional actor for over 25 years before branching out into filmmaking, art and writing. He graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2006.

He has written, produced and directed four short films to date: ‘A Way Back’ (2016), ‘The Correspondent’ (2015), ‘Goldfield’ (2013) and ‘The Winking Boy’ (2011), all of which have screened at local and International Film Festivals including: Moscow, Rome, Sao Paulo, Athens, Bogota, Sapporo, Cinequest, Flickerfest and New Orleans.

Alan’s script for The Winking Boy won Best Screenplay at the 2011 Las Vegas International Film Festival and his screenplay Leo’s Dream was nominated for the 2017 AWG Monte Miller Award (short form).

Alan is currently developing the feature film ‘The Milk Bar’, a retrospective comedy which centres around the Cosmidies, a Greek family who operate a Milk Bar in the Western Suburbs of Victoria from the 70s to 90s. An early draft of Alan’s screenplay was a Quarter Finalist at the 2018 Academy Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting.
