Belinda Chayko

Belinda Chayko is a writer and director for film and television. Showrunner and head writer of the International Emmy Award-winning Safe Harbour (SBS), she was also co-writer and story producer for the ABC series Stateless.

She co-created and co-wrote Foxtel’s Secret City (Series 1 and 2) with Matt Cameron and co-wrote the ABC award-winning series Barracuda. She has written for Fighting Season, Old School, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Newton’s Law and wrote the AWGIE-winning screenplay for SBS telemovie Saved. She has directed two feature films – Lou, starring John Hurt (which she also wrote) and City Loop, starring Sullivan Stapleton. Both films screened internationally at major festivals, including Toronto and Pusan. Belinda is currently showrunning an anthology for ABC television based on the Australian bushfires, as well as feature films and other series. Her interest is in character-based stories that explore the liminal areas of life and morality.
