Cody is an energetic screenwriter and director based in Boorloo / Perth. His goal is to tell stories that’ll touch hearts, grab throats and tickle funny bones.
He graduated with a Bachelors in Directing from the WA Screen Academy at ECU. His film, Broken (2013) won Best Tertiary Film at the 26th WA Screen Awards. Mark Naglazas, film critic of The West Australian, called it:
“A beautifully photographed and richly cinematic coming-of-age drama.”
Some of Cody’s select achievements include:
Being one of ten directors selected worldwide to attend a workshop in Toronto with renowned teacher, Judith Weston. Writing and directing the short film, Outline (2016) funded by Screen Australia’s Raw Nerve program – screening at numerous festivals across America and Europe.
Co-writing, directing and editing, Watchdog (2017), funded by ScreenWest – earning him a nomination for Young Australian Filmmaker of the Year at the 2017 Byron Bay Film Festival.
Most recently, he co-directed with Ziggy O’Reilly his first animated film, While(Alive){} (2021) which Andrew Peirce from The Curb called: “An impressive animation that provokes thought and discussion long after it has finished.”
Cody is a regular performer for Barefaced Stories in Perth and came runner-up when he performed at The Moth storytelling event in Melbourne.
He adores the process of combining real experience with refined narrative technique to make his stories engaging for a wider audience. His dreams are to make a show for Adult Swim, work with Bill Hader and direct an episode of Sesame Street, so he can meet his lifelong hero, Big Bird.
