Dane Picken graduated from the Master of Screenwriting at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2016.
He lives in Melbourne where he writes and produces television for a sports media company, whose content is broadcasted across Europe and the Middle East.
Dane has written several spec scripts for the Melbourne based soap Neighbours, through which he was offered in-house experience as script coordinator at Fremantle Media, and his feature screenplay Boogie was shortlisted in the 2017 AWG INSITE award.
Before pursuing a career in film and television, Dane was a teacher working with young refugees in the Melbourne suburbs of Footscray and Dandenong.
He is also a former competitive Judo player, who represented Australia predominantly throughout Asia and the Pacific.
Dane’s professional and personal pursuits have fostered an interest in communities striving to negotiate cultural differences and frictions. This informs his work, which he always aims to write with humour and heart.
