Ellen Shanley is a screenwriter based in Brisbane, Australia.
Currently, she is working as a Script Coordinator on a teen show. Ellen is on the writing team to develop the romantic comedy novel THE FRIDAY NIGHT DEBRIEF, by Kylie Asmus, into a TV series. She was dialogue editor for the feature film RUBY’S CHOICE, which is a family drama starring prominent actress Jane Seymour.
Ellen was a Finalist for Screen Queensland’s Greg Coote Scholarship, which is a highly-selective program for screenwriters from Queensland that places its winner in an International writers’ room for six to eight weeks. In 2020, Ellen completed the playwriting Incubator program with Playlab Theatre. Prior to that, she completed the Professional Program in Writing for Television (Drama) at UCLA and won the program’s competition for best TV Drama Pilot.
Outside of writing, Ellen has worked as a high school English and Drama teacher. She holds dual Bachelors of Journalism and Arts (Drama and English), a Graduate Certificate in Creative Industries (Creative Writing), and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education. In 2022, Ellen received a Masters in Screenwriting.
