Grace Chapple was selected to take part in First Break NSW and graduated in June 2022.
Grace is an early-career writer based on Gadigal land in Sydney, New South Wales. She has predominantly worked in theatre to date, with a preference for tragedy and dark comedy. Her latest play, Never Closer, has been shortlisted for the Griffin Award and Rodney Seaborn Playwriting Award, long listed for Theatre503’s International Playwriting Award, and published by Australian Plays Transform. Never Closer is set to premiere downstairs at Belvoir St Theatre in 2022.
In 2021, Grace developed new musical Paper Stars as part of the Hatch Lab residency with Salty Theatre and Theatre Works, the premiere season of which was suspended due to COVID. Prior to studying Writing for Performance at NIDA in 2019-20, Grace’s short play Someday was featured in the 2019 ATYP production Intersection: Arrival at the SBW Stables Theatre and published by Currency Press. She has also dabbled in financial journalism, podcasting, and performance.
