James Adams

James Adams is a South Australian Screen Awards nominated writer/director who aims to tell stories that weave the audience between hilarious comedy, tense thrills and deeply emotional moments. He also loves to take notes.

He has taken part in both the AWG’s Note-Takers’ and Script Co-ordinators’ workshops and is looking to be involved in any pre-production and script development opportunities.

He has had two writing mentorships– a micro-mentorship through the AWG with writer Ian Meadows, and a 6-month mentorship through the AWG and Helpmann Acadamy with script consultant Scott Mcconnell.

As a writer/director, his short horror/comedy, Nature Therapy, was nominated for Best Comedy at the 2021 SASA’s and won runner-up student film at the 2022 Sony Catchlight Film Festival. In 2022 his short script won 1st place in a competition held by Triple-A gaming company, Techland. In 2023, his single-take thriller comedy short was selected for the Film Concept Lab presentation at the Adelaide Film Festival.

While freelancing, James has also interned for Beach House Pictures (Singapore) and WeMAT (Adelaide), worked as a Runner for shows like Australian Idol and MKR, and Post-Produced a story in Breakout Productions’ series Aussie Snake Wranglers through their Hands On TV initiative.

He is currently in post-production for his Mercury Quicksilver-funded short, Holding Out, which stars Matt Crook and Wendy Bos.
