John Armstrong

John Armstrong is one of Australia’s leading writers for young audiences, both on screen and on stage.

In 2014 he won the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) Foundation Commission for his play Luke Lloyd: Alienoid, which continues to be performed in schools all over Australia. John was the script producer and head writer for multiple seasons of two popular Netflix animated series – the AACTA and Emmy Award winning Beat Bugs, based on the songs of The Beatles, and Motown Magic, based on the Motown catalogue.

Other animated series credits include the AWGIE winning Space Nova, The Deep, Guess How Much I Love You, The Adventures of Figaro Pho, CJ the DJ, Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs, and the iconic Bananas in Pyjamas. John has also written for live-action drama, including three seasons of the AACTA and Logie Award winning Blue Water High, H2O: Just Add Water, A gURLs wURLd, and the BAFTA nominated Don’t Blame the Koalas. John currently has multiple projects in development, including Ali in Zombieland, a horror-comedy play about teenage anxiety.

He has won four AWGIEs from eight nominations.
