Jonathan Champ

Jonathan is an early-career screenwriter developing projects across film, television and online. After working for a number of years helping organisations and businesses tell their stories through corporate communication, his focus now is on intimate stories that explore transition, change, identity and place. He lives in Adelaide.

His background beyond communication strategy includes post-production, soundtrack composition, research, and event design. He was the licensee for the first Western Sydney TEDxParramatta in 2012. He was selected for the Pitch Perfect program through the Information & Culture Exchange Screen Cultures program in 2016. He completed the AFTRS Graduate Certificate in Screen, Screenwriting in 2017. The micro-doc Actual Size (2017) that he conceived and co-wrote at AFTRS was a finalist in the Made In The West Film Festival and has been screened at The Other Art Fair, and at Blacktown Arts One Night At The Museum.

He has been a script consultant for the US-based Finish Line Script Competition in 2019 and 2020 and was a finalist in the 2020 NYC Midnight Short Screenplay Challenge. As an Associate member of AWG, he is a SA committee member and event producer for the Tuesday Talks industry networking event supported by SAFC. His slate of screen projects includes a mystery feature about Mark Twain’s time in Australia, a young-adult series about digital grief, a story of intergenerational lies and extinct creatures, and a VR project about living with aphantasia.
