Josh Yasserie

Josh represents the Wiradjuri-mine and Bulgundrahmine communities of Peak Hill and Dubbo, NSW, as well as the Australian South Sea Islander (ASSI) community from Mackay, QLD.

With nearly a decade dedicated to academic and professional storytelling, Josh brings a strong foundation in narrative development and visual communication. His journey began with a focus on Interactive Gaming Art at AIE, expanded into Animation at UTS (graduating with Honours), and culminated in a Master’s in Arts Screen: Animation at AFTRS in 2022.

Josh has since brought his passion for storytelling to the screen by creating, directing, writing, and producing KingsLand—a proof-of-concept mini-series featured on ABC’s YouTube channel as part of the 2023 Fresh Blood initiative (ABC and Screen Australia). His work centres First Nations voices and perspectives, with a commitment to telling “our stories, our way”.

In every project, Josh is driven by a collaborative spirit and a desire to contribute to screen culture that reflects the depth and diversity of First Nations experience. He is keen to bring this lens and his attention to detail into the script development space as a notetaker, supporting writers’ rooms and creative teams with precision, cultural insight, and a deep respect for story.

In May 2025, Josh was selected for the Seeding Storytellers program through Screenworks and the Australian Writers’ Guild. The program provided intensive training in note-taking, script coordinating and the basics of a writers’ room, conducted over three day-long online workshops led by industry experts Catherine Kelleher and Terence McCarthy.
