Justin Olstein

Justin’s short film Adam’s Tallit received an AACTA Award nomination for best short film, and won the commendation award at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival.

His feature documentary Curtain Call premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival to critical acclaim, and was broadcast on SBS. His Screen Australia funded short film Fun City premiered at the 66th Locarno Film Festival, and was nominated for the best short film ATOM Award. His short film The Visitor won the best director award at the Sao Paulo Film Festival. His feature film screenplay Shoshanna was shortlisted for the Sundance Screenwriters’ Lab, won the 2020 AWG Monte Miller Award for Best Unproduced Screenplay, received development funding from Creative Victoria, and is currently in development.

He co-created the comedy web series Echo Chamber, with a feature film version of the series presently in development with writing partner Carla Silbert. He was selected for Berlinale Talents in 2013, and is a graduate of the VCA Film and Television School, winning the best screenplay award in his graduating year. Justin is passionate about Jewish representation on screen, and is committed to redressing the scarcity of Jewish-themed stories produced in Australia.
