Katherine Hayes is an Australian-Sri Lankan Burgher writer based in Naarm.
Growing up wanting to be a journalist, she realised on her first day of uni that she would rather write about made-up worlds than the state of the real one.
She has written award-winning short stories, with one adjudicated by Cate Blanchett and Kate Grenville and published in a sell-out anthology, and her bylines include Spook Mag, Junkee, and Concrete Playground.
She has also created online content for Frankie Magazine and filmmaker Damon Gameau, and written the copy for photography book Abandoned South Australia.
Recently turning to screenwriting, last year she took part in Film Vic’s Originate program, and had her short film screenplay officially selected for the Melbourne Lift-Off Film Festival.
Katherine is a recent graduate of the First Break Victoria program.
When she isn’t tapping away on her computer keyboard she’s tapping away in tap shoes and/or rollerskating.
