Katy Bard

Katy Bard is an author, PhD holder, former VFX professional, industry education specialist, and above all, a major film production nerd!

Based in Gippsland Victoria, Katy’s passion for storytelling has never faded. From writing stories instead of paying attention in school, to writing animated shorts while waiting for renders, storytelling has always found a way into her life.

Balancing a full-time career, family responsibilities, and caring for loved ones, 2026 became the year Katy finally took the brakes off and committed fully to her writing ambitions. Her debut novel (13 years in the making) explores identity, belonging, courage, resilience, and the connection between people and place. Alongside her novel, she’s developing an original Australian feature film that celebrates the beauty of the Australian outback and its wildlife through heart, humour, and epic adventure for the whole family. The project has received industry encouragement from Screenworks and AACTA for its creative merit and potential and contributed to her selection for Victoria’s First Break program.

Film, animation, and storytelling aren’t just interests – they’re part of who Katy is. Having worked across post-production on major film and television projects (including Game of Thrones, The Boys, Mortal Kombat, Thor: Ragnarok, Logan and more), she’s now looking to expand into pre-production writers’ rooms, ready to soak up every opportunity to learn while supporting Australia’s creative community, particularly regional storytellers.
