Kayti Murphy is the winner of the 2023 Monte Miller Award – short form category. She is a screenwriter and actor based in Fremantle, Western Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Media Studies (Film and Television), and a Master of Arts (Screenwriting) from Murdoch University. She has worked for more than a decade in corporate communications, which has only fueled her sense of humour and passion for unearthing stories in the most unlikely of places. Through this work, she has interviewed people from all walks of life; from prisoners to Antarctic scientists, healthcare professionals, public servants, defence personnel, and professional athletes. Kayti is currently developing a TV comedy series Vera vs Vern about a 70-something couple who stage a fake divorce to bolster their Centrelink pensions. The project was selected to pitch at CinefestOz 2022 in its original form as a 6×12 web-series. Feedback from the industry panel at this event inspired Kayti to expand the series for television.
