Luisa Mitchell

Luisa Mitchell is a published writer and filmmaker with a BA in Screen Arts and International Relations (2021). Originally from Broome, Western Australia, Luisa is currently living and working on Nyungar Boodjar in Boorloo/Perth. She is of Whadjuk Ballardong Nyungar and European heritage.

Luisa writes predominantly about family relationships, trauma, power dynamics and exploring the dark and light in us all, with a penchant for dark comedy, magic realism, and coming-of-age stories. An excerpt from her First Nations fantasy feature film screenplay, The Maw and the Martuwarra, was selected to be published in the anthology book Under The Paving Stones, The Beach (2022). Her first self-written and directed short film, Good Boy Blue (2017), has over a million views on Youtube. She co-wrote and produced the absurdist, tragicomedy short film Ball and Chain (2020), which was selected in international film festivals including St Kilda Film Festival – Under the Radar (2021). Her fictional short stories have been published in the anthology Kimberley Stories, international journal Portside Review and youth magazines, Grok and Pulch. In 2022, Luisa was accepted into Pathway’s prestigious First Break WA program for early-career screenwriters.

Luisa currently works as a story and podcast program coordinator and producer at literary not-for-profit, Centre for Stories.
