Mark O’Toole

Mark O’Toole got his start in comedy on the Melbourne stand up circuit in the late eighties. By the mid-nineties he was writing on TV programmes such as Full Frontal, Get A Life and Eric for Artist Services, and by the late nineties was Head Writer of Totally Full Frontal for the Ten Network.

In the early 2000’s Mark co-wrote the award winning John Safran’s Music Jamboree and John Safran Versus God with John Safran. During this period Mark also co-wrote the feature films Take Away and You And Your Stupid Mate with Dave O’Neil.

Mark was most recently Writer/Producer of Spicks and Specks (ABC1), Series Producer of Tractor Monkeys (ABC1), Head Writer of Series 1 and 2 of the kids sketch comedy program You’re Skitting Me (ABC3), and Head Writer/Series Producer of Series 3, as well as Producer of Black Comedy Series 1 and 2 (ABC1).

Mark has been nominated for multiple awards, including the 2016 AACTA Award for Best Television Comedy Series and the 2015 and 2017 Logies for Most Outstanding Comedy (for Black Comedy) and the 2004 Australian Writers’ Guild AWGIE Award for Non-Format Comedy (for Comedy Inc.). Mark won the 2003 AWGIE Award for Non-Format Comedy with John Safran for the episode “Everybody Cut Footloose” in Music Jamboree.

Mark is currently in development for Black Comedy Series 3 and has numerous other projects in various stages of development.
