Maya Johnson is a Wulgurukaba woman from Yunbenun (Magnetic Island). She is currently undertaking a VicScreen Internship in producing and development with Blackfella Films and the ABC.
Passionate about telling First Nations stories, Maya has contributed to broadcast packages for ABC Indigenous and NITV’s coverage of the National Indigenous Fashion Awards, and has supported post-production at Pursekey Productions.
In May 2025, Maya was selected for the Seeding Storytellers program through Screenworks and the Australian Writers’ Guild. The program provided intensive training in note-taking, script coordinating and the basics of a writers’ room, conducted over three day-long online workshops led by industry experts Catherine Kelleher and Terence McCarthy.
