Meegan May is a queer writer for stage, screen, and audio and also happens to be former military intelligence analyst.
Her TV project Viewers, written during her MFA in screenwriting, was shortlisted in the Australian Writers’ Guild’s John Hinde Award and Final Draft’s Big Break Competition among others. Part of her military career involved radio production, and she has written and produced skits, radio plays, and targeted messaging both in Australia and overseas. Her background inspired TV project The Analyst which won the 2019 AWG’s Pathways McCraith House Writer’s Residency. Meegan was the script coordinator on the TV series Romper Stomper, received support from Film Victoria and SBS to develop the short-form series Seeker, and has been a top five finalist in the BlueCat Screenplay Competition.
Meegan also regularly collaborates with writer Lauren Anderson. Together they wrote award-winning comedy short The Ginger Conspiracy and a short work for Theatre Works in 2019 as part of the Green Room Award winning She is Vigilante program. Their first full length play, The Countdown, is currently being developed throughout 2020 as part of a residency with Theatre Works and with support from Creative Victoria. Meegan recently completed a one-year Film Victoria Key Talent placement as Assistant Scripted Development Producer at Seven Studios.
