Nelya Valamanesh

Nelya Valamanesh is second-generation Iranian Australian woman, who has been jumping around the scene for many years dabbling in poetry, writing short stories, DJing at women-run events and working on film sets.

She is now putting her energy into writing theatre and web-based comedies. After graduating with a BA in English and Creative Writing, Nelya was chosen to develop her writing and working in the film industry. In 2019 Nelya was chosen to participate in AFTRS Talent Camp in South Australia and again in 2020 for the AFTRS National Talent Camp where she continues to develop her first web series 5 Rules to being a Fuckgurl which has picked up an early development funding from the South Australian Film Corporation. More recently, 5 Rules to being a Fuckgurl has received an Adelaide Film Festival x Closer Productions micro-grant and mentorship. Nelya’s vision through all her creative avenues has been to speak her truth as a proud Persian/Australian woman and be an ally to many unspoken voices of colour in Australia’s film and theatre industries.
