Nicola Sercombe

Nicola is a writer and director working and living on Gadigal land in Sydney.

Growing up in regional New South Wales, Nicola developed her taste for creating stories against the backdrop of Coffs Harbour’s coastal and rainforest landscapes and went on to pursue her love of storytelling at Griffith Film School, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Film Production and Screen Media. She is currently completing a Masters in Directing at the Australian Film and Television School.

Nicola’s graduate directorial short film, ‘Crackpot’ has travelled the festival circuit, playing in Australia, America and Germany and winning the award for Best International Student Short at the End of Days Festival in Florida and Best Other Short at Apocalypse Later Festival in Arizona.

Amongst working on her own personal projects, Nicola has assisted producers and the production office of companies like Fremantle, NBC Universal, Amazon Studios and Wildbear Entertainment. Taking her production and script skills to the next level, Nicola was selected for the 2024 NSW First Break workshops, training up in note taking, script coordinating and the mechanics of the writer’s room.

Nicola is passionate about creating female led stories rooted in the dark comedy genre and is currently working on a feature script adapted from her short film, Crackpot.
