Suren Jayemanne is a comedian/writer, performer and note-taker, currently based in Sydney.
In 2014, Suren was touted to be one of the best new comics in the country when he was selected for the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s prestigious Comedy Zone showcase. The following year, Suren made his solo debut at both the Melbourne and Sydney Comedy Festivals. His comedy has been seen on the TV (ABC’s Comedy Up Late, Tonightly with Tom Ballard) and heard on triple J and ABC radio. In 2018, Suren’s first TV comedy special aired as part of the ABC’s Comedy Next Gen series. That same year, Suren debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe. Suren’s comedy, which explores multiculturalism, race and class in contemporary Australia, has been praised by critics as insightful and on-point, engaging and thought-provoking.
Suren was a participant in the 2020 AFTRS National Talent Camp program for emerging writers. He has written for ABC’s Tonightly with Tom Ballard and was a contributing writer on At Home Alone Together (ABC) as well as appearing on Chasers War on 2020 (ABC) and The Feed (SBS). Suren also featured on the BBC Radio 4’s As Others See Us program, where he was interviewed about his experiences as a second generation Australian with Sri Lankan heritage.
Suren was the writer and host of the Bendigo Bank Life Coach podcast released in December 2020.
