Tony wrote the screenplay for The Favourite which premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Prize. Other awards include nomination Best Original Screenplay 91st Academy Awards, winner Best Screenplay at British Independent Film Awards, BAFTA win for Best Original Screenplay and Screenwriter of the Year at London Film Critics Circle Awards.
Plays he has written include The John Wayne Principle, The Virgin Mim, The Unlikely Prospect of Happiness, The Great and The Grenade. Feature films include The Rage in Placid Lake (writer/director, 2002), starring Miranda Richardson, Rose Byrne and Ben Lee, an adaptation of his stage play The Café Latte Kid and Ashby (writer/director, 2015) starring Mickey Rourke, Sarah Silverman and Nat Wolff.
His television writing credits includes The Secret Life of Us, Love My Way, Spirited, Offspring, Tangle, Puberty Blues seasons 1 & 2 (writer/EP/showrunner on Puberty Blues series 2) and Doctor Doctor (creator, producer and writer), now in its 4th season. Tony is adapting his stage play The Great in to a 10 x 1 hour miniseries for Hulu, starring Elle Fanning and Nicolas Hoult. Production is slated for late 2019. Tony wrote and produced the pilot which was shot in 2018. He is also writing a feature for director Yorgos Lanthimos and screenplay of Cruella for director Craig Gillespie and Disney.
