Urvi Majumdar is the creator, writer and star of ABC and Screen Australia’s Freshblood series ‘Urvi Went to an All Girls’ School’ (out now), which she co-directed with Nina Oyama.
The series, which they are developing further, is written by South Asian creatives, about the Asian-Australian experience of growing up and chasing dreams within the high-stakes setting of a selective all girls’ school in Melbourne, 2010.
Urvi has been a note-taker in writers’ rooms for Guesswork TV and has recently completed the AWG First Break program in which she learnt and practiced industry standard note-taking.
Urvi has been a contributing member in writers’ rooms for Screen Australia funded projects: Swamped and The Emu War, Screen Tasmania funded Flat Earthers and has been a cultural script advisor for the series Pivot. Having been in varying positions within a writers’ room – from leader to contributor and note-taker, Urvi is both a creative and administrative asset to any project.
Outside of screenwriting, Urvi is an exciting emerging voice within the Australian Comedy scene. She has written, performed and nationally toured two solo comedy shows and made guest appearances on prime time shows: The Cheap Seats, Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee and Celebrity Letters and Numbers. She writes regularly for ABC’s The Weekly with Charlie Pickering and Channel Ten’s The Project.
On screen, she has featured in the main supporting cast for both seasons of Channel 9’s Metrosexual and featured in seasons 2 and 3 of critically acclaimed ABC show, Fisk.
