Zaity Salman was selected to take part in First NSW and successfully completed the program in June 2022.
Zaity is a screenwriter living and working on Gadigal land in Sydney, Australia. She completed a Bachelor of Film and Screen Media at Griffith Film School and is currently completing her final year of a Master of Screen: Arts (Screenwriting) at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.
In 2019, Zaity won Cambridge University’s Watersprite Film Festival award for Best Short Screenplay for her screenplay, The Body of Women. Taking from her experiences growing up Black in rural Queensland and her endless wonder for her Nigerian heritage, Zaity’s body of work includes fantasy, comedy, sci-fi and period drama with a particular focus on projects for television.
Zaity is passionate about writing collaboratively to bring unique, complex and engaging stories to life and is a firm believer that diversity comes easy when the room includes a variety of experiences.
Since completing First Break NSW, Zaity has worked as a notetaker on television projects for Every Cloud Productions, Matchbox Productions, and SBS Digital original series, Appetite, produced by Karen Radyzner. Noted for her attention to detail and well-organised notes, Zaity is available to work in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne based on the needs of the production.
When she isn’t writing, you can find Zaity trying to improve her (very poor) painting skills, exploring Sydney and buying her cat, Jasper, far too many toys.
